New Dimension Features in Version 5
  • On the Dimension Tab under Utilities>Settings, the arrows are now shown in a picture box. When you change the arrow type or angle, the picture will update to show the changes.
  • While placing dimensions, any changes you make to the settings in the speedbar tabs at the top of the screen will immediately be updated in the drawing. For example, if you change text size from 3 to 6 the change will immediately display. If you change to a different arrow type or angle, the new settings appear onscreen.
  • The Dimension Text Tab now has a setting to justify text as left, center or right. This setting only applies to multiline text in a dimension as described below.
  • You can append text on a separate line below the dimension line when editing a selected dimension. The appended line is associative and will update if you move or stretch the dimension:

1. Place the dimension.

2. Select the dimension and right click and select Dimension Edit (or shift+right click if you have set your right button to Near Point Snap), or type DE or ED. In the Prefix/Suffix section of the Dim Text tab, check the boxes for Suffix and Append below Dimension Line.

3. Type the text into the Suffix edit box and click OK to close the dialog and view the result:

The appearance of the appended dimension text will depend on several settings. In this example the text height is set to 4, text justification to Center, Above-Line vertical distance selected with above line distance of 3, and the Line Space % is 300. If the spacing percentage were set to 200%, the second line of text would appear much closer to the dimension line, almost touching it.

Justification has no affect on dimensions without an appended suffix, so you can set this once on the Dimension Text Tab rather than having to change it each time with Dimension Edit when you add an appended line. You can do the same with Line Space % as well in most cases. However, if you also use Stacked or Min/Max Tolerances in dimensions, be aware that the Line Space % affects these as well.
