New Leader Features in Version 5
In all earlier versions you finished entering text
by clicking [OK] on the speedbar or pressing Enter
twice from the keyboard and were then prompted to enter a point --click
to set and complete the command, or drag the mouse to flip the text to
the other side of the leader line.
In v5, flipping the text is optional. When finished
entering text, click [OK] or press Enter
twice and the Leader command finishes. If you want to flip, finish typing
text and then click on the leader before
completing the command. The cursor changes to a double-sided arrow. Drag
it from side to side to see the flip options. Click to set the flip, and
click [OK] in the speedbar or press Enter
twice from the keyboard to end the command.
- The Leader Curve and Datum
Curve commands have been eliminated. Instead you can now set a leader
line to be straight or curved on the Leader Settings and Edit dialogs.
- On the
Leader
Tab under Utilities>Settings, the arrows are now shown in a picture
box. When you change the arrow type or angle, the picture will update
to show the changes.
- While placing leaders, any
changes you make to the settings in the speedbar tabs at the top of the
screen will immediately be updated in the drawing. For example, if you
change text size from 3 to 6 the change will immediately display. If you
change from straight line to curved, the curved line will appear onscreen.
- You can edit a leader already
placed in the drawing, by selecting it and running the Leader command.
For example, select a leader, type LE
and a blinking caret will appear at the end of the leader text string (as
well as in the speedbar). You can now edit text onscreen, and also change
any of the settings via the speedbar, and they will update in real time. You
can also "flip" the text of from side to side using the technique described
above.
- The Leader Text Tab now has
a setting to justify text as left, center or right. This setting only
applies to multiline leaders as shown in the illustration below.
- There are 5 new settings
for vertical alignment in addition to the Visual CADD default that was
the only option in earlier versions. The default normally has text left
justified, but in the example below it is centered to illustrate the new
justification feature:

When Visual CADD 5 first opens it uses the old default setting, and
with leader text left justified. If you don't want to use the other vertical
alignment options, you don't need to make any changes to settings.
